EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST

The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association of Australia is calling for expressions of interest from aircraft owners and pilots who have sailing experience, that would like to join our sail racing team for the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race, starting Boxing Day 26th December 2019.

This year marks both the 70th Anniversary of AOPA Australia and the 75th Anniversary of the Sydney to Hobart yacht race, with the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia anticipating beyond 140 race entries, the largest since the 50th Anniversary.

Team AOPA Australia #becomeapilot aims to help promote and build awareness of Australia’s general aviation industry, celebrating our 70 years of service to the aviation industry through a once in a lifetime team experience.

The team will be led by AOPA Australia Executive Director, Mr Benjamin Morgan, and Virgin Australia Boeing 777 Captain, Mr Matt Wenke, sailing a 45ft Beneteau 44.7 First with a crew contingent of ten (10) sailors.  The leadership team are highly experienced sailors, with 11 Sydney to Hobart races to their credit.

We are calling for expressions of interest for (5) crew positions.  Interested persons are invited to submit an application online (below), detailing;

  1. Why you would like to participate;
  2. Your aviation experience and qualifications; and
  3. Your sailing experience and qualifications.

Successful applicants will be required to participate in a range of crew training and pre-qualification races from Sydney Harbour, along with attending crew safety and first aid courses as required.  Participants will be required to provide personal safety equipment and contribute towards crew costs.  Further information will be provided on receipt of expressions of interest.
