The team have been hard at work this weekend finalising the paint stripping on VH-PKU, a long and arduous task that never seems to come to and end!

This past week we have also removed the engine from VH-PKU to enable a thorough tidy up of the firewall, engine frame and components. The team will also start a full clean up of the engine itself, which is a mid-life Continental O-200A.

This week coming the engine frame will be sent to Aviation Welding Services at Bankstown Airport, where it will be thoroughly inspected, checked for cracks and repaired if necessary. This inspection is a SIDS requirement.

Both the left and right hand doors have been trial fit to ensure alignment in preparation for the re-installation of the upper fuselage wing root ribs and the lower strut cheek plates. Once this work is completed, the focus will shift to the aft fuselage structure, which requires sheet metal repairs.

A full set of replacement windows for VH-PKU have been ordered this past week, more on these when they arrive.
