News this week that Graeme Crawford has departed the regulator in what some are describing as a major CASA shake-up by the new Director of Aviation Safety, Pip Spence.

In May 2016, Crawford was appointed to the 2IC position of Group Executive Manager Aviation to oversee the finalisation of the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations (CASRs), the transformation of CASA’s operational functions to a new operating model and the management of Australian civil aviation safety risk as the chair of CASA’s Aviation Safety Committee (ASC).

Crawford was appointed acting CEO and Director of Aviation Safety of CASA on the 13th January 2021, following the departure of Mr Shane Carmody.

“On behalf of AOPA Australia, I extend our regards to Mr Crawford and wish him all the best for his future away from aviation. “ Benjamin Morgan, Chief Executive.
