Kimberly Air Safari

Kimberley Air Safari

14 Nights, Saturday 10 to Saturday August 24, 2019

AOPA Australia members, family and friends are invited to the two week Kimberly Air Safari, to be held from Saturday 10 to Saturday August 24.

The trip starts with a two night stay at Katherine, and includes a visit to the Katherine Gorge.  Following this is another two night stay on Home Valley Station, East Kimberly before moving on to the Bungle Bungles for a night.  Flying via Derby to the Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm can include some spectacular scenic flying over the Buccaneer Archipeligo, home of the Horizontal Falls.   Then it is a stay of 3 nights at Drysdale River Station, which serves as a hub to visit the Mitchell Falls, King George Falls, Kalumburu, Mornington Wilderness Camp, Mount Elizabeth and Ellenbrae Stations.  Drysdale River is followed by two nights at the famous El Questro Station.   The Safari finishes with a night at Bullo River Station or Kununurra.

It is two weeks of seeing the remarkable landscapes of the Kimberly Region, staying at some renown cattle Stations as well as enjoying the camaraderie of fellow participants.    Many activities have also been planned and include:

  • Sunset tour of Home Valley Station, including an opportunity for some Barramundi fishing
  • Bungle Bungle guided walking tours
  • Dimod Gorge tour at the Mornington Wilderness sanctuary
  • Mitchell falls, which includes helicopter transfers
  • At El Questro a full day tour visiting Emma Gorge and Zebedee Springs, along with ‘Beef and Barra’ lunch followed by an afternoon Chamberlain Gorge Cruise

There are also opportunities to travel to and return from the Safari.  Each of these journeys could take up to a week visiting many outback destinations.  Therefore allow 3 to 4 weeks, including this travel if doing the full journey in a light aircraft.
