Birdsville Races

Thursday 5 to Sunday September 8, 2019

AOPA Australia members, family and friends are invited to the one of the marque AOPA Australia Flying Events – the Birdsville Races to be held from Thursday 5 to Sunday September 8.

The Birdsville Race Meet is an iconic annual outback event, where the population of Birdsville swells to several thousand throughout its duration.  Race days are Friday and Saturday with the Birdsville Cup being run on this day.  The plan is to travel to Birdsville on the Thursday and return on the Sunday, possibly via Cameron Corner for a hearty breakfast.

Participants can either camp under the wing of their aircraft or enjoy the luxury of Tent City for about $300 each if sharing a tent.  Race patrons can watch the races in comfort if they wish by purchasing a premium race hospitality package.    When not at the races there are many things to do, starting with the morning mingle on the oval, movies, Big Red Sunset Tours, RFDS Cocktail Party, with day probably ending at the famous Birdsville Hotel for drinks and live music.

More information on the Birdsville Races can be found at

https://www.birdsvilleraces.com

Birdsville is 773 nautical miles direct from Bankstown.  Leaving when dawn breaks, a solid day of flying in a Piper Warrior or Cessna 172 type aircraft may make the destination before sunset.  To comfortably fly these distances in a day, a faster aircraft is recommended or plan to cover over two days.

The aim of AOPA Australia Flying Events is to provide members enjoyable GA experiences at wonderful Australian destinations.  The flying events calendar can be found at
