Life brings you amazing opportunities. I have taught many children across NSW in sport and recreation to “reach for the sky” and experience as much as you can, wherever you can. I was lucky enough to also teach in Canada and my career highlight was to co-ordinate the Sydney Olympic Games Education Program. My last role, before retiring, was promoting public education in the Illawarra/South Coast Region where I took photos to enhance the great work achieved by students and teachers. I am a long distance cyclist having ridden the length and breadth of Australia, plus just a few kilometres within, mainly in the outback, raising money for a truely valuable organisation, the Royal Flying Doctor Service where I met the cheeky Nancy Bird Walton, who was their patron. I love paddling kayaks and bush walking around our Shoalhaven home; my husband Jack and I have a little mantra “What is around the next corner”! We have so many places to still see and capture in the camera lens. Now I look everywhere from the air. I was lucky enough to have a sister who took me on my first nervous flight, from Bankstown to Ballina in 1981, just after she gained her unrestricted licence. My dad who flew to New Guinea with the RAAF in Hercules and Caribou aircraft, had organised her lessons, was I so glad, she did not practice her aerobatics with me in the plane! Since then I have had the pleasure of seeing Canada and Australia from an array of aircraft including DC3, Cessna, seaplanes and helicopters - I am still a novice but with AOPA’s help I will learn about all the planes flying across our extraordinary country. Now my sister owns a plane so I can go on Air Safaris!
