South Coast Fly-Away

South Coast Fly-Away

South Coast Weekend

Shoalhaven Region – September 28 and 29, 2019

AOPA Australia members, family and friends are invited to the September AOPA Flying Event for 2019 – a weekend in the Jervis Bay area to be held on the weekend of September 28 and 29, 2019.   For those that cannot stay overnight, an option could be to come for just the Saturday and Sunday activities.

The airfield to use, for those flying in, is the Jaspers Brush Airfield, home to the South Coast Recreational Flying Club.  The AOPA Australia bus will collect participants here and transport them to the Silos Restaurant, Silos Estate Winery for wine tasting and lunch.  After lunch it is then on to the Fleet Air Arm Museum at HMAS Albatross, Nowra.

An overnight stay has been arranged at a Huskisson motel, along with a BBQ that evening.  The next morning around 10:00 a whale watching cruise has been organised.  September and October are considered the best months for whale watching in the Jervis Bay area, since during the Southern migration, mothers and their new born calves often come for rest within the Bay

More information on Silos Estate and the Fleet Air Arm Museum can be found at

Pilot and passengers will enjoy the flight to Jaspers Brush, which can track down the scenic NSW south coast.  A return flight can comfortably be done in a day in Piper Warrior or Cessna 172 type aircraft from Sydney as Bankstown to Jaspers Brush is 56 nautical miles direct.  There grass airstrip which has a minimum length of 800 meters.

In the event that weather may prevent operations into Jaspers Brush airstrip, the AOPA Australia bus will be available to transport participants from Sydney.

Details on accommodation, meals, bus transportation and the whale watch cruise will be provided early September to interested participants – but budget around $350 per person, excluding drinks to cover these items.

The aim of AOPA Australia Flying Events is to provide members enjoyable GA experiences at wonderful Australian destinations.  The flying events calendar can be found at
