Picnic with the Tigers
Luskintyre Airfield, Saturday April 6, 2019
AOPA Australia members, family and friends are invited to the third AOPA Australia Flying Event for 2019 – a visit to the picturesque Luskintyre airfield, located in the Hunter valley to be held on Saturday April 6, 2019. The majority of the aircraft on the airfield are vintage. In fact, Luskintyre has the most operational Tiger Moths in one place on the planet.
The visit coincides with a regular open day held at the airfield. Usually this means quite a few drop-ins and occasionally an impromptu aerobatics display by Paul Bennet. It is also an opportunity to have a joy flight in a Tiger Moth. The coffee shop serves a variety of drinks, with its veranda a comfortable spot to watch the goings on. There is also a small museum to browse a bit of aviation history along with interest of strolling around the grounds of the airfield. More information on Luskintyre airfield can be found at
http://luskintyreairfield.com.au
Pilot and passengers will enjoy the flight to Luskintyre, which could include a coastal flight following the Sydney northern and Central Coast beaches. A return flight can easily be done in a day in Piper Warrior or Cessna 172 type aircraft from Sydney as Bankstown to Luskintyre is 79 nautical miles direct. Luskintyre has a pair of well maintained grass runways with a minimum length of 800 metres.
Details on lunch options will be provided during March to interested participants – but budget around $15 per person, excluding drinks to cover these costs.
