Australian STOL Championship

Tyabb – Sunday April 14, 2019

The Peninsula Aero Club, based at Tyabb Airport on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria is hosting the inaugural biennial Australian STOL championship on Sunday April 14.  This event is based on the annual STOL competition held in Valdez, Alaska where pilots gather to compete and amaze crowds with unbelievably short take-offs and landings.

At Valdez in 2018, the winning take-off length was 11 feet (3.4 metres) in a highly modified Piper Cub.  The winning landing distance was just 9.5 feet (2.9 metres) in a Birdman Chinook.  In addition to these feats of flying there will be many Antique and Warbird aircraft on static display, and tarmac tours will be available throughout the day to enable close-up viewing of these aircraft.  There will also be an extensive display of classic and historic vehicles and model aircraft along with a variety of food and drink stalls.  Over this weekend there will also be many Foxbat aircraft at Tyabb airport as they will be having their 2019 fly in.

Gates open at 08:30 am, with competition starting at 10:00 am and finishing by 4:00 pm.  Online price for tickets is $25 for Adults, $10 for children 6 to 10 years of age, and $60 for a family of two adults and two children.  Add $5 to each of these prices if buying at the gate.  More details of the Australian STOL championship, along with the ability to buy tickets for this event can be found at the following link:
