Changes to Parafield Inbound and Outbound Routes

AOPA recently sent an eAOPA email to its members in South Australia in relation to changed directions for the inbound and outbound routes to Parafield Airport.

Recent incident reports have highlighted the danger of not conforming with the eastern route-reversal changes at Parafield that were implemented on 19 November 2009.

The CURRENT recommended inbound route is via the ‘Dam Wall’ and the outbound route is via the ‘Substation’. These eastern routes were reversed in order to reduce the possibility of infringing the Adelaide Class C LL 2500 step to the east of Parafield by aircraft climbing out. Other traffic, including scheduled public transport aircraft, passes close to the base of the overlying controlled airspace and particularly south of Dam Wall.

We recommend that all pilots familiarise themselves with the current Parafield local procedures in ERSA and check out the detailed information in the Safety Bulletin

If you need further information, AOPA recommends that you study the Safety Bulletin and current ERSA entries, and contact your flying instructor or other qualified person.

AOPA would appreciate your assistance in passing this information onto other pilots who use Parafield Airport and who might not otherwise receive this alert.

We wish you safe flying this winter season.
